Who we are
Maccabi AJAX Swimming Club (formerly AJAX Swimming Club and then AJAX Maccabi Swimming Club) was founded over eighty years ago and is affiliated with Maccabi Victoria which is the peak body for Jewish sport in Melbourne.
We are registered with Swimming Victoria and Masters Swimming Victoria, and are therefore able to offer a pathway for those of our members who wish to take part in State or National competitions.
We have also partnered with Maccabi Aquatics, a full-service swim school operating at the Bialik College Gringlas Sports Centre in Hawthorn East – Maccabi Aquatics runs all the squad programs for Club members.
We are administered by active volunteers who give their time to assist with the development of programs and the hosting of events.
As a not-for-profit organisation, the Club generates its revenue through sponsorships, membership, and events. Income and funding are re-invested back into the sport for development squads, participation in events such as Maccabiah and the Pan Am Games as well as local and interstate competitions.

Mission Statement

Maccabi AJAX Swimming Club encourages swimming at all levels by supporting and guiding its members to enjoy their sport and maximise their potential. As a Club that is affiliated with Maccabi Victoria, we aspire to be the club of choice for Jewish swimmers in Melbourne.
Club Membership
Maccabi AJAX Swimming Club has a strong membership base with which it retains regular contact. The Club actively supports Junior, Open and Masters swimming programs, and provides a pathway for those swimmers who wish to take part in State or National competitions. Club membership also offers a number of other benefits:
- The opportunity to build friendships and a network with the community
- For eligible members, to participate in the events hosted by Maccabi such as the Maccabiah Games and Pan Am Games
- The opportunity to play a part in developing the sport in the Jewish community
The Sport of Swimming
Swimming provides numerous physical and personal benefits. Fitness, strength, coordination, and physical awareness, are just a few of the advantages that are gained by swimming regularly.
The sport, discipline, and commitment of swimming also challenges and develops personal skills.
Spending time in a group workout, such as water aerobics or a master’s swim session, is a great social outlet. Exchanging stories, challenging each other, and sharing in the exercise make swimming with others a rewarding experience.
There are other psychological benefits to swimming. Relax and swim with a very low effort. Let your mind wander, focusing on nothing but the rhythm of your stroke. This form of meditation can help you gain a feeling of well-being, leaving your water session refreshed and ready to go on with the rest of your day.
Many swimmers derive a number of indirect benefits from swimming. They develop life skills such as sportsmanship, time-management, self-discipline, goal-setting, and an increased sense of self-worth through their participation in the sport.
